Our History

Built patient by patient

Standard Eye Specialist Hospital began as a small consulting practice in Abuja, born out of a simple frustration: patients were travelling abroad for eye care that could and should be delivered at home.

Investment followed conviction. A dedicated diagnostic suite was built around OCT, visual field analysis and digital fundus imaging. A purpose-designed ophthalmic theatre followed, then a premium optical centre so patients could complete their care in one visit.

Today the hospital operates subspecialty clinics in medical retina, glaucoma, anterior segment surgery, dry eye and myopia control from Area 1, Garki — with the Standard Vision Care Foundation extending that care into communities that cannot come to us.

Founder's Story

“I kept meeting patients who lost sight for want of a scan.”

In years of practice, our founder saw the same story repeat: a diabetic patient whose retinopathy was never screened, a young man whose glaucoma was found only after his peripheral vision had gone, an elderly woman with a dense cataract who believed blindness was simply part of ageing.

None of those outcomes were inevitable. Each needed the same three things — equipment capable of showing the truth, a specialist trained to interpret it, and enough time to explain it in language the patient understands.

That conviction is the foundation of this hospital, and the reason we invest in technology, training and time.
